Who are we?
The story of man’s ascent from seaweed to the lordship of earthly creation is indeed a romance of biologic struggle and mind survival. Man’s primordial ancestors were literally the slime and ooze of the ocean bed in the sluggish and warm-water bays and lagoons of the vast shore lines of the ancient inland seas, those very waters in which the Life Carriers established the three independent life implantations on Urantia. [Paper 65:2.1, page 731:5]
A search in The Urantia Book for the terms “animal” and “origin” yield 35 results, in considering this topic on our origin, is that we may better appreciate our staring point—lowest free willed creatures of the Father’s universe with the capacity to know him.
To kick things off I will include the first three instances of “animal” “origin” and take it from there.
1. Minded personality requires a life vehicle to function, ours happens to be the body of evolutionary animal origin—A fundamental reality is personality.
Personality is a level of deified reality and ranges from the mortal and midwayer level of the higher mind activation of worship and wisdom up through the morontial and spiritual to the attainment of finality of personality status. That is the evolutionary ascent of mortal- and kindred-creature personality, but there are numerous other orders of universe personalities. [Foreword 0:5.1, page 8:1]
The pattern of Paradise is reflected in the material world, our bodies included.
…the Isle of Paradise is nonpersonal and extraspiritual, being the essence of the universal body, the source and center of physical matter, and the absolute master pattern of universal material reality. [Foreword 0:5.5, page 8:5]
One of the qualities of universal reality manifestation in Urantian human experience is our body.
Body. The material or physical organism of man. The living electrochemical mechanism of animal nature and origin. [Foreword 0:5.5, page 8:5]
2. The Universal Father set all this in motion that the universes of time and space be inhabited with creatures with capacity to know their lowly origin all the better to appreciate their exulted destiny. Beings who can know God, receive divine affection and love him in return.
The myriads of planetary systems were all made to be eventually inhabited by many different types of intelligent creatures, beings who could know God, receive the divine affection, and love him in return. The universe of universes is the work of God and the dwelling place of his diverse creatures. “God created the heavens and formed the earth; he established the universe and created this world not in vain; he formed it to be inhabited.” [Paper1:0.2, page 21:2]
The enlightened worlds all recognize and worship the Universal Father, the eternal maker and infinite upholder of all creation. The will creatures of universe upon universe have embarked upon the long, long Paradise journey, the fascinating struggle of the eternal adventure of attaining God the Father. The transcendent goal of the children of time is to find the eternal God, to comprehend the divine nature, to recognize the Universal Father. God-knowing creatures have only one supreme ambition, just one consuming desire, and that is to become, as they are in their spheres, like him as he is in his Paradise perfection of personality and in his universal sphere of righteous supremacy. From the Universal Father who inhabits eternity there has gone forth the supreme mandate, “Be you perfect, even as I am perfect.” In love and mercy the messengers of Paradise have carried this divine exhortation down through the ages and out through the universes, even to such lowly animal-origin creatures as the human races of Urantia. [Paper1:0.3, page 21:3]
3. There is a reciprocity of process in action with animal origin mortals—an evolutionary up-reach in response to spiritual downstepping.
As the Sons of God are engaged in the gigantic task of revealing the Father’s personality of love to a universe, so is the Infinite Spirit dedicated to the unending ministry of revealing the combined love of the Father and the Son to the individual minds of all the children of each universe. In these local creations the Spirit does not come down to the material races in the likeness of mortal flesh as do certain of the Sons of God, but the Infinite Spirit and his co-ordinate Spirits do downstep themselves, do joyfully undergo an amazing series of divinity attenuations, until they appear as angels to stand by your side and guide you through the lowly paths of earthly existence. [Paper 8:4.5, page 94:7]
By this very diminishing series the Infinite Spirit does actually, and as a person, draw very near to every being of the animal-origin spheres. And all this the Spirit does without in the least invalidating his existence as the Third Person of Deity at the center of all things. [Paper 8:4.6, page 95:1]

Our mind is an impersonal portion of cosmic mind.
Because the Third Person is the source of mind, do not presume to reckon that all phenomena of mind are divine. Human intellect is rooted in the material origin of the animal races. Universe intelligence is no more a true revelation of God who is mind than is physical nature a true revelation of the beauty and harmony of Paradise. Perfection is in nature, but nature is not perfect. The Conjoint Creator is the source of mind, but mind is not the Conjoint Creator. [Paper9:5.5, page 103.3]
Mind is of divine origin and has divine destiny, however, mortal minds are not yet of divine dignity.
Mind, on Urantia, is a compromise between the essence of thought perfection and the evolving mentality of your immature human nature. The plan for your intellectual evolution is, indeed, one of sublime perfection, but you are far short of that divine goal as you function in the tabernacles of the flesh. Mind is truly of divine origin, and it does have a divine destiny, but your mortal minds are not yet of divine dignity. [Paper9:5.6, page 103:4]
The fact mortal mind can be distorted by animal fear, insincerity and useless anxiety (baseless fear), that inhibit maturity, should lead to reactions of humility.
Too often, all too often, you mar your minds by insincerity and sear them with unrighteousness; you subject them to animal fear and distort them by useless anxiety. Therefore, though the source of mind is divine, mind as you know it on your world of ascension can hardly become the object of great admiration, much less of adoration or worship. The contemplation of the immature and inactive human intellect should lead only to reactions of humility. [Paper9:5.7, page 103:5]

Lowly animal origin belies an exulted destiny.
After all, to mortals the most important thing about eternal Paradise is the fact that this perfect abode of the Universal Father is the real and far-distant destiny of the immortal souls of the mortal and material sons of God, the ascending creatures of the evolutionary worlds of time and space. Every God-knowing mortal who has espoused the career of doing the Father’s will has already embarked upon the long, long Paradise trail of divinity pursuit and perfection attainment. And when such an animal-origin being does stand, as countless numbers now do, before the Gods on Paradise, having ascended from the lowly spheres of space, such an achievement represents the reality of a spiritual transformation bordering on the limits of supremacy. Reality of a spiritual transformation bordering on the limits of supremacy is the prospect offered each Adjuster indwelt mortal. The bona fide experiential growth acquirement resulting from exhaustion of potentials.

Revelation clears up confusion and the Michael Son bestowal as Jesus is one such instance where clarity is needed to remove erroneous interpretations. Bestowal is a necessary part of the experiential process designed to make these Sons safe and sympathetic magistrates and rulers of the peoples and planets of time and space.
On Urantia there is a widespread belief that the purpose of a Son’s bestowal is, in some manner, to influence the attitude of the Universal Father. But your enlightenment should indicate that this is not true. The bestowals of the Avonal and the Michael Sons are a necessary part of the experiential process designed to make these Sons safe and sympathetic magistrates and rulers of the peoples and planets of time and space. The career of sevenfold bestowal is the supreme goal of all Paradise Creator Sons. And all Magisterial Sons are motivated by this same spirit of service which so abundantly characterizes the primary Creator Sons and the Eternal Son of Paradise. [Paper20:5.2, page 227:5]
A Paradise Son must live as an “animal origin” mortal to make possible the subsequent planetary reception of Thought Adjusters who only flock to an inhabited world once the Spirit of Truth has been poured out upon all flesh. This is dependent upon the return to universe headquarters of a Paradise Son who has successfully executed a mission of mortal bestowal upon an evolving world.
Some order of Paradise Son must be bestowed upon each mortal-inhabited world in order to make it possible for Thought Adjusters to indwell the minds of all normal human beings on that sphere, for the Adjusters do not come to all bona fide human beings until the Spirit of Truth has been poured out upon all flesh; and the sending of the Spirit of Truth is dependent upon the return to universe headquarters of a Paradise Son who has successfully executed a mission of mortal bestowal upon an evolving world. [Paper20:5.3, page 227:6]
Our Creator Son appeared as the babe of Bethlehem, Jesus, a member of the Jewish people, the racial group with the largest hereditary legacy of the Adamic stock which has previously up-stepped the “animal-origin” peoples. In this way the Creator Son lived and died as a a member of the lowest order of evolutionary will creatures.
Though these seven bestowals vary in the different sectors and universes, they always embrace the mortal-bestowal adventure. In the final bestowal a Creator Son appears as a member of one of the higher mortal races on some inhabited world, usually as a member of that racial group which contains the largest hereditary legacy of the Adamic stock which has previously been imported to upstep the physical status of the animal-origin peoples. Only once in his sevenfold career as a bestowal Son is a Paradise Michael born of woman as you have the record of the babe of Bethlehem. Only once does he live and die as a member of the lowest order of evolutionary will creatures. [Paper 21:4.3, page 239:9]
In this consideration of “origin” it is significant that we mortals are at the very end of the spiritual line when viewed in philosophical construct of “alpha” and “omega” conceptualization of beginnings and endings.

Once more we are informed our “origin” is the very bottom of intelligent existence, all the more glorious the achievement of “destiny.” The response to the invitation call of the Father to be perfect. The yearning for perfection is inbuilt within each of us from start to finish.
The test of time is almost over; the race for eternity has been all but run. The days of uncertainty are ending; the temptation to doubt is vanishing; the injunction to be perfect has been obeyed. From the very bottom of intelligent existence the creature of time and material personality has ascended the evolutionary spheres of space, thus proving the feasibility of the ascension plan while forever demonstrating the justice and righteousness of the command of the Universal Father to his lowly creatures of the worlds: “Be you perfect, even as I am perfect.”[Paper26:9.3, page 295:1]
A child has every right to find his/her rightful place with his/her father. Animal-orign mortals by status, are classified sons to begin with, and are welcomed as such on arrival in Paradise, only now, as perfected sons of God.
Step by step, life by life, world by world, the ascendant career has been mastered, and the goal of Deity has been attained. Survival is complete in perfection, and perfection is replete in the supremacy of divinity. Time is lost in eternity; space is swallowed up in worshipful identity and harmony with the Universal Father. The broadcasts of Havona flash forth the space reports of glory, the good news that in very truth the conscientious creatures of animal nature and material origin have, through evolutionary ascension, become in reality and eternally the perfected sons of God. In these turbulent times of cultural and religious upheaval in the Middle East and contrastive secular materialism in the West, it’s worth reflecting on the fact the way is open to all Adjuster-indwelt mortals, the Paradise destiny may be anticipated by all of the human races of Urantia.
1. Planetary Mortals. Mortals are all animal-origin evolutionary beings of ascendant potential. In origin, nature, and destiny these various groups and types of human beings are not wholly unlike the Urantia peoples. The human races of each world receive the same ministry of the Sons of God and enjoy the presence of the ministering spirits of time. After natural death all types of ascenders fraternize as one morontia family on the mansion worlds. [Paper30:4.10, page 340:12]
If fraternal brotherhood has not taken sufficient root during the short initial mortal life experience, the fraternity of ascenders on the mansion worlds will ensure the fact of family association of all universe citizens.
Evolutionary mortals are born on the planets of space, pass through the morontia worlds, ascend the spirit universes, traverse the Havona spheres, find God, attain Paradise, and are mustered into the primary Corps of the Finality, therein to await the next assignment of universe service. There are six other assembling finality corps, but Grandfanda, the first mortal ascender, presides as Paradise chief of all orders of finaliters. And as we view this sublime spectacle, we all exclaim: What a glorious destiny for the animal-origin children of time, the material sons of space! [Paper31:10.20, page 354:6]
With such an adventure ahead, who would not be stirred to press on? We live in a friendly universe and all the family are cheering us on, Divine Counselor, One without Name and Number and Ancients of Days, included.

That is why of all knowledge, the greatest, is to know the religious life of Jesus and how he lived it.
The personalities of a given universe are settled and dependable, at the start, only in accordance with their degree of kinship to Deity. When creature origin departs sufficiently far from the original and divine Sources, whether we are dealing with the Sons of God or the creatures of ministry belonging to the Infinite Spirit, there is an increase in the possibility of disharmony, confusion, and sometimes rebellion — sin. [Paper32:3.7, page 361:2]
At the start, personalities are dependable only in accordance with their degree of kinship to Deity.
The perfection of the creatures of time, when finally achieved, is wholly an acquirement, a bona fide personality possession. While the elements of grace are freely admixed, nevertheless, the creature attainments are the result of individual effort and actual living, personality reaction to the existing environment. [Paper32:3.9, page 361:4]

The fact of animal evolutionary origin does not attach stigma to any personality in the sight of the universe as that is the exclusive method of producing one of the two basic types of finite intelligent will creatures. When the heights of perfection and eternity are attained, all the more honor to those who began at the bottom and joyfully climbed the ladder of life, round by round, and who, when they do reach the heights of glory, will have gained a personal experience which embodies an actual knowledge of every phase of life from the bottom to the top. It would have been easy for the Universal Father to make all mortals perfect beings but he did not do that for that would deprive them of the wonderful experience of personal achievement of knowing they started at the very bottom and arrived at the top by their own efforts.
In all this is shown the wisdom of the Creators. It would be just as easy for the Universal Father to make all mortals perfect beings, to impart perfection by his divine word. But that would deprive them of the wonderful experience of the adventure and training associated with the long and gradual inward climb, an experience to be had only by those who are so fortunate as to begin at the very bottom of living existence. The midwayers have been witness to all the events of history portrayed for half a million years and are well credentialed to correct the cumulative errors of human records, especially those pertaining to origin.
Midwayers remain for long periods on an inhabited world, but if faithful to their trust, they will eventually and most certainly be recognized for their agelong service in maintaining the sovereignty of the Creator Son; they will be duly rewarded for their patient ministry to the material mortals on their world of time and space. Sooner or later all accredited midway creatures will be mustered into the ranks of the ascending Sons of God and will be duly initiated into the long adventure of the Paradise ascent in company with those very mortals of animal origin, their earth brethren, whom they so jealously guarded and so effectively served during the long planetary sojourn. We have the United Midwayers of Urantia to thank in their successful petition and selfless work in the assembly of the Urantia Papers which we now enjoy as the Fifth Epochal Revelation of Truth to the animal-origin mortals of Urantia.

Vern, if I may interject, here before you continue, should you not expand on the “Midwayer’s” and their various type descriptions, where it would seem from the following UB quote that the “Translated Midwayers” as mentioned below, may already be with us and live and breath along side to us, as brothers and sisters?
3. Translated Midwayers
(444.3) 40:3.1 Although deprived of the immediate benefits of the planetary bestowals of the descending Sons of God, though the Paradise ascent is long deferred, nevertheless, soon after an evolutionary planet has attained the intermediate epochs of light and life (if not before), both groups of midway creatures are released from planetary duty. Sometimes the majority of them are translated, along with their human cousins, on the day of the descent of the temple of light and the elevation of the Planetary Prince to the dignity of Planetary Sovereign. Upon being relieved of planetary service, both orders are registered in the local universe as ascending Sons of God and immediately begin the long Paradise ascent by the very routes ordained for the progression of the mortal races of the material worlds. The primary group are destined to various finaliter corps, but the secondary or Adamic midwayers are all routed for enrollment in the Mortal Corps of Finality.
Would not Michael/Jesus’ last bestowal where He was deemed Planetary Prince, and having completed His Universe Sovereignty obligations also, simultaneously made Him “Planetary Sovereign”, thereby both groups “Primary and Secondary” Midwayers who have translated, may have already progressed on and returned to the Planet of their origin, not to mention those who have translated and are waiting, with us to move on through the ascent-ion path, who could just as easily be considered inclusive of the “spiritual brotherhood”?
Where in the previous UB quote the term “temple of light” is used in one other place in the UB which I present below, with its corresponding quotes:
(510.7) 45:1.9 Number 7. The World of the Father. This is the silent sphere of the system. No group of beings is domiciled on it. The great temple of light occupies a central place, but no one can be discerned therein. All beings of all the system worlds are welcomed as worshipers.
(510.8) 45:1.10 The seven satellites surrounding the Father’s world are variously utilized in the different systems. In Satania they are now used as the detention spheres for the interned groups of the Lucifer rebellion. The constellation capital, Edentia, has no analogous prison worlds; the few seraphim and cherubim who went over to the rebels in the Satania rebellion have been long since confined on these isolation worlds of Jerusem.
(510.9) 45:1.11 As a sojourner on the seventh mansion world, you have access to the seventh transition world, the sphere of the Universal Father, and are also permitted to visit the Satania prison worlds surrounding this planet, whereon are now confined Lucifer and the majority of those personalities who followed him in rebellion against Michael. And this sad spectacle has been observable during these recent ages and will continue to serve as a solemn warning to all Nebadon until the Ancients of Days shall adjudicate the sin of Lucifer and his fallen associates who rejected the salvation proffered by Michael, their universe Father.
As a side note, it might be cons crewed by the last statement above, that the “sin” which was assessed against the rebels was merely to having had “rejected” — “salvation”, or made a choice to reject salvation based on the circumstances at their times of choosing?

Hi there Midi, good of you to add your voice to this topic. Yes, the midwayers will get the opportunity to join with ascending mortals on the Paradise ascension scheme, however I doubt if any but “1,2,3 The First”—who serves with the Four and Twenty Counsellors—have been released from their permanent citizenship duties on Urantia.
MidiChlorian thanks for bringing my attention to the quote that mentions the possibility of midwayers being released from their current status as permanent citizens of Urantia prior to the era of Light and Life, however, as The Urantia Book is the source of this revelatory information which we would not otherwise know, I would consider this a very remote possibility at our present stage of evolutionary progress, one dispensation behind where we should be. I’m of the view they’ve got a lot of work to do as midwayers yet prior to release from plant bound duties come the era of Light and Life.
In Item No. 24 is mention made of the two types of “finite intelligent will creatures” that start at the very bottom just as mortals do. I first considered the possibility the other will creatures, being midwayers. However, after reading about Evolutionary Seraphim, that guardian seraphim also have the opportunity to share the experience of sonship with animal-origin mortals, I’m more inclined to think it’s evolutionary seraphim. Then again, we are also told of the distinct difference of mortals like the nonbreathers who are non-Adjuster fusion candidates of sonship status.
Mortal creatures of animal origin are not the only beings privileged to enjoy sonship; the angelic hosts also share the supernal opportunity to attain Paradise.

These seraphim are the real mercy ministers of the local universes. They are the inspired leaders who foster the higher impulses and holier emotions of men and angels. The directors of these legions are now always completion seraphim who are also graduate guardians of mortal destiny; that is, each angelic pair has guided at least one soul of animal origin during the life in the flesh and has subsequently traversed the circles of Seraphington and has been mustered into the Seraphic Corps of Completion. Mortals of series one inhabit the worlds of space during the earlier epochs of the evolution of mankind and embrace the most primitive types of human minds. On many worlds like pre-Adamic Urantia great numbers of the higher and more advanced types of primitive men acquire survival capacity but fail to attain Adjuster fusion. For ages upon ages, before man’s ascent to the level of higher spiritual volition, the Adjusters occupy the minds of these struggling creatures during their short lives in the flesh, and the moment such will creatures are indwelt by Adjusters, the group guardian angels begin to function. The Gods who ordained that mortal man should climb to higher levels of spiritual intelligence through long ages of evolutionary trials and tribulations, take note of his status and needs at every stage of the ascent; and always are they divinely fair and just, even charmingly merciful, in the final judgments of these struggling mortals of the early days of the evolving races. Mortals of series two—mortals of the non-Adjuster-fusion types, specialized types of human beings who are not able to effect eternal union with their indwelling Adjusters. Nonbreathers belong to this series, a nonbreather inhabited world is said to be not too far distant from Urantia.
Series two — mortals of the non-Adjuster-fusion types. These are specialized types of human beings who are not able to effect eternal union with their indwelling Adjusters. Type classification among the one-, two-, and three-brained races is not a factor in Adjuster fusion; all such mortals are akin, but these non-Adjuster-fusion types are a wholly different and markedly modified order of will creatures. Ascendent plan is the same in terms of devoted service for non-Adjuster-fusion types is as fully provided it is for the Urantia type mortals—us.
In the ascendant plan for upstepping the animal-origin creatures, these beings enjoy the same devoted service of the Sons of God as is extended to the Urantia type of mortals. Seraphic co-operation with Adjusters on the nonfusion planets is just as fully provided as on the worlds of fusion potential; the guardians of destiny minister on such spheres just as on Urantia and similarly function at the time of mortal survival, at which time the surviving soul becomes Spirit fused. Mortals of series three—mortals of Adjuster-fusion potential, mortals of “animal origin,” just like the Urantia races.
Series three — mortals of Adjuster-fusion potential.All Father-fused mortals are of animal origin, just like the Urantia races. They embrace mortals of the one-brained, two-brained, and three-brained types of Adjuster-fusion potential. Urantians are of the intermediate or two-brained type, being in many ways humanly superior to the one-brained groups but definitely limited in comparison with the three-brained orders. These three types of physical-brain endowment are not factors in Adjuster bestowal, in seraphic service, or in any other phase of spirit ministry. The intellectual and spiritual differential between the three brain types characterizes individuals who are otherwise quite alike in mind endowment and spiritual potential, being greatest in the temporal life and tending to diminish as the mansion worlds are traversed one by one. From the system headquarters on, the progression of these three types is the same, and their eventual Paradise destiny is identical. [Paper40:5.17, page 447:2]
Mortals of unnumbered series—mortals that vary in ways not yet revealed to us but not differentiated regarding the ascension career. We have been informed of our world’s variable being a decimal / experimental planet.
The unnumbered series. These narratives cannot possibly embrace all of the fascinating variations in the evolutionary worlds. You know that every tenth world is a decimal or experimental planet, but you know nothing of the other variables that punctuate the processional of the evolutionary spheres. There are differences too numerous to narrate even between the revealed orders of living creatures as between planets of the same group, but this presentation makes clear the essential differences in relation to the ascension career. And the ascension career is the most important factor in any consideration of the mortals of time and space. [Paper40:5.17, page 447:2]
