Regarding “subconscious” and “material” mind, given that the lowest level of our system of mind consists in the rhythmic pulsations of the adjutants ( 117:5.7, 1286.5 ), and that these adjutant spirits are in fact a level of consciousness of the Divine Minister, I cannot see much in the way of material-ness in this system…?
The “material-ness” of the system has to do with the reality level being activated by mind. The first five adjutants activate life which is associated with material reality, material energy vehicles for life. The last two adjutants begin to activate life associated with morontia reality, the morontia energy system for continued life known as the soul. Of course the last two adjutants also activate the morontia energy system associated with secondary midwayer life (which is why they are so helpful when it comes to babysitting the soul when the self- acting Adjuster is busy elsewhere).
Recall that mind is bestowed upon even the lowest and most primitive forms of material life. The physical controllers are another form of mind ministry. The purpose of mind is to bridge the gulf between material and spiritual reality. The maximum function of the cosmic mind is found where the gulf between the two is widest. And it is the goal of mind ministry to directionize material reality with the purpose of coordinating it with spiritual reality. After all, the purpose of this universe age, the emerging Supreme, is exactly what mind ministry is attempting to fulfill.
116.5.3 The bifurcation of energy and spirit (stemming from the conjoint presence of the Eternal Son and the Paradise Isle) was symbolized in the superuniverse sense when the Seven Master Spirits unitedly engaged in their first act of collective creation. This episode witnessed the appearance of the Seven Supreme Power Directors. Concomitant therewith the spiritual circuits of the Master Spirits contrastively differentiated from the physical activities of power director supervision, and immediately did the cosmic mind appear as a new factor co-ordinating matter and spirit.
9:6.7 The greater the spirit-energy divergence, the greater the observable function of mind; the lesser the diversity of energy and spirit, the lesser the observable function of mind. Apparently, the maximum function of the cosmic mind is in the time universes of space. Here mind seems to function in a mid-zone between energy and spirit, but this is not true of the higher levels of mind; on Paradise, energy and spirit are essentially one.
9:5.3 The unique feature of mind is that it can be bestowed upon such a wide range of life. Through his creative and creature associates the Third Source and Center ministers to all minds on all spheres. He ministers to human and subhuman intellect through the adjutants of the local universes and, through the agency of the physical controllers, ministers even to the lowest nonexperiencing entities of the most primitive types of living things. And always is the direction of mind a ministry of mind-spirit or mind-energy personalities.
103:7.3 But as ascending man reaches inward and Paradiseward for the God experience, he will likewise be reaching outward and spaceward for an energy understanding of the material cosmos. The progression of science is not limited to the terrestrial life of man; his universe and superuniverse ascension experience will to no small degree be the study of energy transmutation and material metamorphosis. God is spirit, but Deity is unity, and the unity of Deity not only embraces the spiritual values of the Universal Father and the Eternal Son but is also cognizant of the energy facts of the Universal Controller and the Isle of Paradise, while these two phases of universal reality are perfectly correlated in the mind relationships of the Conjoint Actor and unified on the finite level in the emerging Deity of the Supreme Being.
Perhaps these references add additional information on Life Carrier patterns of life.
36:6.4 When the Life Carriers have designed the patterns of life, after they have organized the energy systems, there must occur an additional phenomenon; the “breath of life” must be imparted to these lifeless forms. The Sons of God can construct the forms of life, but it is the Spirit of God who really contributes the vital spark. And when the life thus imparted is spent, then again the remaining material body becomes dead matter. When the bestowed life is exhausted, the body returns to the bosom of the material universe from which it was borrowed by the Life Carriers to serve as a transient vehicle for that life endowment which they conveyed to such a visible association of energy-matter.
65:4.1 Do not overlook the fact that Urantia was assigned to us as a life-experiment world. On this planet we made our sixtieth attempt to modify and, if possible, improve the Satania adaptation of the Nebadon life designs, and it is of record that we achieved numerous beneficial modifications of the standard life patterns. To be specific, on Urantia we worked out and have satisfactorily demonstrated not less than twenty-eight features of life modification which will be of service to all Nebadon throughout all future time.
Since the Life Carriers borrow lifeless material from the planet to execute their designs, after which the breath of life is imparted to the form/s, it seems to me the form/s are the cosmic situations without which planetary life evolution can occur – material, mindal and spiritual.
36:6.2 Things material may enjoy an independent existence, but life springs only from life. Mind can be derived only from pre-existent mind.Question: Do you think the adjutants interface directly with the individual physical axons, dendrites and neurotransmitters of the brain? Or do you think the adjutants interface with mind which has been superimposed upon the physical brain energy system?

As to Bonita’s question here, I am too uneducated to respond however…..as one who watches lots of Nature and Wild Kingdom and other naturalist shows, it has long impressed me the degree of intelligence there is at work in nature…from plants and insects to every level of animal…the ability to adapt and respond and specialize and interact in highly specific ways and environments….including deep in the seas and in the most hostile of all environs. This is not mechanical or biological or chemical…it is mind and planning and management with purpose and intent.
Nigel’s diagrams about the adjutants make me consider the likelihood that the adjutants are allies and associates of the life carriers, intimately engaged in cooperative collaboration to evolve all life forms into their ultimate achievement of mortal beings. But we are here now, the evolutionary victory of humanity…and yet from micro-organisms to the higher mammals, this orchestration of life and mind ministry continues. as does adaptation and evolution. Evidently, experiential wisdom pertains also to the adjutants and the life carrier and their joint ventures.
As Mara suggests, this topic would benefit by its own discussion given its scope and importance. However, it is also integral and important to consideration of religion – as it relates to the higher adjutants, but also the lower ones, and the morontial transfer process of mortal identity and the ministry of the TA and Spirit of Truth. How are we so spiritual in nature? How does faith form? How does the yearn and the assurance experience come to be? What parts of that experience are shared by lower creatures? Just how related are we to basic life forms and all those in between from non-thinking to critical thinking? It’s a very broad spectrum but it appears that every living thing, no matter how simple or complex, exists along that progressive matrix and spectrum of functionality. Fascinating.

For example,
117:5.7 The great circuits of energy, mind, and spirit are never the permanent possessions of ascending personality; these ministries remain forever a part of Supremacy. In the mortal experience the human intellect resides in the rhythmic pulsations of the adjutant mind-spirits and effects its decisions within the arena produced by encircuitment within this ministry. Upon mortal death the human self is everlastingly divorced from the adjutant circuit. While these adjutants never seem to transmit experience from one personality to another, they can and do transmit the impersonal repercussions of decision-action through God the Sevenfold to God the Supreme. (At least this is true of the adjutants of worship and wisdom.)
The revelators tell us there are three levels of life production and evolution. (65:0.2)
- The physical-energy domain — mind-capacity production.
- The mind ministry of the adjutant spirits — impinging upon spirit capacity.
- The spirit endowment of mortal mind — culminating in Thought Adjuster bestowal.
Adjutant spirits can only do so much within the physical-energy domain, as their work pertains directly “brain” capacity. An example is shown in the reason dinosaurs died out – their brains were too small – they were too stupid to survive. (60:2.14)

Actually, the questions I propose are concerned with the lead up to the phenomenon of being born of the spirit, the Holy Spirit. Nigel changed the name of the the Holy Spirit to the Spirit of Fact, and I had a cow. The current discussion is meant to focus on the details of how the universe manages to get us from mechanistically reactive protoplasm to a conscious relationship with Deity, as Nigel describes in his paper. Nigel and I are scientists, so please forgive.
